Albion Loanee Set For Arsenal Debut After Leno Horror Show

Bernd Leno is suspended due to dismissal against Wolves.

Maty Ryan could make Arsenal debut if he has recovered from hip injury.

MATY RYAN is set to make his debut for Arsenal after their first-choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno was sent off against Wolves.

Referee Craig Pawson gave the German his marching orders in the closing stages of the match. Leno had punched the ball clear despite clearly being out of his area.

Leno will be suspended for the next two Arsenal matches against Aston Villa and Leeds. This absence will give Ryan a great chance to stake a claim for the starting spot. However it will depend of on Ryan’s fitness. The Aussie is just coming back from a hip injury and the last update from Arsenal was they are “Hopeful to be back in full training in the coming days.”

Ryan joined the Gunners on loan and has replaced Alex Runarsson as the club's back-up goalkeeper. The 28-year-old was named in Mikel Arteta's Europa League squad over the Icelandic keeper.

The Gunners boss has plenty of confidence in Ryan. When he joined the North-London side Arteta said, "We know Mat very well through his performances with Brighton in recent seasons, and he brings additional quality to our squad. Mat has very good Premier League experience and has played over 100 times in the league, which is something that will benefit us greatly on and off the pitch."

The Aussie fell down the pecking order at the Amex after some inconsistant form. Graham potter lost faith and replaced him with Robert Sanchez who has been in top nick for the Seagulls.
